Love those tree faces...
At the annual Memorial Day family get together in Somers, or the "RussFest" as it is affectionately known in our house.
Alex.
Susan Daily, standing proud at the conclusion of another fabulous Harvey concert.
Melanie.
Agnes Falcon at her art exhibition where she sold many of her paintings - hurray!

A gorgeous day to meet friends at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan to see the Bodies exhibit there. Fascinating dissections of real dead people. (REAL dead people or real DEAD people, both apply.) The one I remember the most was a display of a fellow's skeleton, removed from the rest of him. They set the two parts facing each other and leaning away, fingers hooked together, bones and body forever gazing at what was lost.
Will, Melanie and Alex. There was a guy selling chimes and doodads and such, but one thing was these carved hollow frogs with ridged backs and a wooden stick which, when run over the ridges, made a sound exactly like the peepers one hears near a marsh in a summer dusk.
who painted the sky?
A contortionist/reggae musician drew quite the crowd on this sunny Saturday on the pier.

New York scene
A sneak shot of an Alex Grey painting from his gallery on 27th St, NYC. Most appropriate after seeing the Bodies exhibit, and some very trippy art. Made me want to fire up a splif and put on the Floyd...
A huge cruise ship passes before our eyes. Most surreal.
Mom found an old photo of her (Carol Battle, on left), my Nana Jack (Romilda "Jack" Battle, center) and Mr. Knowles, Jack's boss in the law firm. Date and occasion unknown, Florida. This is seriously retouched.
Harvey Senior Prom, May 18, 2006. In Eva's yard - her hair "feels like it has a pushup bra in it" - her glasses "on...or off?"
The rain began just as they were ready for photos, of course. Note the orange Doc Martens boots and matching tie. In the car en route to prom, he painted a nail to match her dress, and she one to match his orange.
A beautiful couple indeed.

Alex and Franny do the Tango at The Harvey Dance Concert.
Tango.
Scene from Harvey Dance Concert, April 2006. Alex and Franny reprise their "Too Darn Hot" piece from Kiss Me Kate (see below for shots from the play).
Harvey Dance Concert. Amelia Reilly and Heather Ellis did a "middle Eastern dance." Nah, was a belly dance done with schoolish discretion.
Pete and Alex on tour of UVM. One happy on a pleasant spring day, one a little hesitant about things.
Alex contemplating his future home, University of Vermont, Burlington. In background is the catamount, their mascot, done in beautiful bronze.
Building detail, UVM. Columnar style copied from Hampton Court in England (see below).
Carol Battle, my mom. Easter 2006.
Michael Gambino, a calm, centered, smart naturalist with dry humor and deceivingly grave mien.
Melanie Gambino, a boundless spirit, grounded on this plane only by gravity.
Our group, the Early Music Ensemble from The Harvey School, embarked on a tour of England, March, 2006. Music couldn't wait, so playing ensued in JFK International Airport while awaiting the boarding call. Various photos from the trip follow.
A pub on the edge of Stratford-upon-Avon which is known by two names, I think because it's in two communities. Or maybe one's for the tourists and one for the locals. Who knows with those Brits? Gotta love it. Here's the sign from one side...
...and from the other.
London.
Tree, Russell Square, London.
Pub window, The Lamb, Bloomsbury, London.
Ceiling detail, St John the Baptist, Essex.
Cathedral windows, Southwark, London.
Cathedral windows, Great St Mary's in Cambridge.
Shakespeare's Globe theatre, south London. Melanie, being Melanie, just drops onto her back in the middle of the museum there. Wha...?
What Melanie was gazing at (see above photo) on ceiling in Globe museum.
The thatch used as roofing over the seats at The Globe.
Magnificent clock at Hampton Court, the palace built by Cardinal Woolsey between 1515 and 1530, whose architecture and landscaping is astounding.
Chimneys from Hampton Court. I have seen this brick styling copied, most recently on the campus of the University of Vermont. There were actually many different styles randomly used throughout Hampton, which makes it easily recognizable when watching movies about English royalty.
Statuary, Hampton Court.
The Rosetta Stone was on display at the British Museum when we visited. An amazing thing to see and contemplate.
Humbaba. I may have to create yet another online persona to match that name. Humbaba. Nice ring to it, no? British Museum.
English students busily studenting. British Museum.
