A gorgeous day to meet friends at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan to see the Bodies exhibit there. Fascinating dissections of real dead people. (REAL dead people or real DEAD people, both apply.) The one I remember the most was a display of a fellow's skeleton, removed from the rest of him. They set the two parts facing each other and leaning away, fingers hooked together, bones and body forever gazing at what was lost.

Will, Melanie and Alex. There was a guy selling chimes and doodads and such, but one thing was these carved hollow frogs with ridged backs and a wooden stick which, when run over the ridges, made a sound exactly like the peepers one hears near a marsh in a summer dusk.

Magnificent clock at Hampton Court, the palace built by Cardinal Woolsey between 1515 and 1530, whose architecture and landscaping is astounding.

Chimneys from Hampton Court. I have seen this brick styling copied, most recently on the campus of the University of Vermont. There were actually many different styles randomly used throughout Hampton, which makes it easily recognizable when watching movies about English royalty.

The London Eye, a huge ferris wheel type thing put up by British Air on the Thames that goes so slowly you don't feel you're moving, but offers fab views of Londontown. I admired the mechanics of this monster.

This is my dad, Fred (or Hugh. Two names, one guy.) A really, really smart engineer geek, he died in the 90s from dementia; this pic taken in the 50s I'm guessing? One of those Cheever-esque suburban parties, no doubt -- he was fond of Manhattans and gimlets (shudder). Anyway here he is, immortalized (LOL) on the web he never knew, but would have loved.

The next few shots are from a 50-something party I gave myself last November. OK, it was 51, 'cause the previous year I didn't feel well so promised myself, I said, "Self," I said, "next year you're gonna throw yerSelf a big bash, cuz you never have and you may never will." So I did, and it was great, and almost all my nearest and dearest were able to come. I missed some of my oldest friends who couldn't make it for one reason or another: Chris & Bill, Stephanie, Kathie, and my newer friends Melanie & Michael. Oh, what a night! (Like my partysox?)
